Add some flair to your site with Custom Google pins

Google as we all should know have a fantastic platform to show users where our businesses are based but businesses are yet to use their own branding on the Google Maps they use.

If a map is required Media City Way always go that extra mile and use the companies branding on Google Maps and today we'll show you how you can do it yourself.

You will need a Google Account to use custom pins

  1. First of all sign in to your Google Account and visit maps
  2. On the left hand side click My Places
  3. Click the red CREATE MAP button
3.1.   Fill out the title and description boxes
3.2.   If you want everybody to see your custom map click Public
  4. Now search and find your business location on using the search bar at the top
  5. At the top left of the map you will see a blue pin Google Location Pin
  6. When you drop the pin in your location a window will open, fill out the title and description, we use the title as the Business Name and the description as the address and contact details.
  7. In the right corner of the window a blue pin will be showing, click on this pin
  8. A library of pins will be shown to you BUT to add your own pin click Add an icon (top right)
  9. A window will pop up informing you of the sizes your image should be, now enter the URL of where the image is on the internet. For those people who don't have access to their own hosting accounts you can upload images for free on all major social network sites, we recommend you use Pinterest
  10. Once you've typed the URL of the image and clicked enter your pin will show on the map, click save and then done on the left hand side of the screen.

How do I get my Custom map on my website?

We have noticed that it usually takes a minute or 2 for the custom pin and map to be saved so you can share it on your website, so wait a couple of minutes and then click the link button which is located to the right of the print button (above the EDIT button)

Now copy and paste the iframe code where you want it to appear on your website, for further options click Customise and preview embedded map
